  CAPTAIN KEVIN COPPIN

Kevin has had a life dedicated to service. Immediately after graduating from high school Kevin enlisted in the United States Air Force where he attained the rank of Sergeant. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force in 1987, Kevin joined the West Palm Beach Police Department.

Kevin found his niche in narcotics enforcement. In 1990 after only two years in patrol, Kevin was transferred to the Criminal Apprehension Team where he entered the world of undercover law enforcement. Kevin's passion for the work did not go unnoticed by the department; in 1992 (a short two years later) he was transferred again to the Organized Crime Section.

While in the Organized Crime Section Kevin was recognized and awarded for his investigative excellence. His awards include:

  • The Palm Beach County Chiefs of Police Officer of the Year
  • The City of West Palm Beach Mayors Orchid Award
  • The Palm Beach Post Officer of the Year for Crime Solution
  • West Palm Beach Rotary Club Officer of the Year
  • Minority Law Enforcement Council Officer of the Year
  • Masonic Lodges of West Palm Beach Officer of the Year
  • The United States Attorney's Office presented Kevin with the Outstanding law Enforcement Officer Award and certified him as an expert witness in Organized Street gangs and crack cocaine investigations for State and Federal cases.
  • The pinnacle of the awards that Kevin received is in the medal that he proudly displays upon his uniform – The West Palm Beach Officer of Year –Chiefs Medal of Excellence.

Looking back at his achievements, Kevin could have rested on his laurels, but in 1998 at a time he requested a transfer.

Kevin earned the position of field training officer and served in that capacity until he was promoted to Sergeant in January 2000. As a sergeant Kevin had the additional responsibility of serving as the supervisor for the Field Training Officers overseeing the training of new recruits.

After eight (8) months as a patrol supervisor Kevin was transferred back to narcotics where he supervised the Criminal Apprehension Team.

Kevin remained in Narcotic for two years before being transferred to various other sergeant positions including, community services, patrol, the Quick Response Team and Internal Affairs.

In July 2008 Kevin was promoted to the rank Lieutenant where most recently he served as the District I Shift Commander.

Kevin has a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies with a minor in Legal Studies as well as a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Lynn University.

Kevin is married to his wife Lydia and they have one daughter Bria..

Presently he serves as the Division III Commander.
