West Palm Beach Police Chief has appointed Captain Bryan Kummerlen to the position of interim Assistant Chief assigned to the Field Operations Bureau effective October 2, 2011. Captain Kummerlen is a 24 year veteran of the department and served as Captain of Patrol, Division 1.
Assistant Chief Bryan Kummerlen began his career with the West Palm Beach Police Department in 1987. Prior to his promotion to Captain in 2008, he served a Lieutenant in the Field Operations Bureau and the Community Services Division. Other assignments have included road supervisor, records supervisor, motorcycle officer, traffic homicide investigator and patrol officer. In 2009, Assistant Chief Kummerlen was appointed to the position of commander of the Critical Services Bureau. His current areas of responsibilities included; Records, Evidence, Fiscal Services, Staff Services, Accreditation, Planning, Police Athletic League and Dispatch Operations. In July of 2010 Assistant Chief Kummerlen was transferred to the North District (Division 1).
Assistant Chief Kummerlen is a graduate of Florida State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Criminology in 1987. In 2004, he graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Masters of Public Administration. Assistant Chief Kummerlen also graduated from the Criminal Justice Executive Leadership Program at Florida Atlantic University and was a Dean's Scholar of the Southern Police Institutes Administrative Officers Graduate Program at the University of Louisville. Assistant Chief Kummerlen is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.
