 PATRICK MANEY

Captain Maney joined the West Palm Beach Police Department in March 1980. He first served as a Uniformed Patrol Officer and also spent time as a Plain Clothes Tactical Squad member which focuses on street crime. Maney was also a Field Training Officer. In 1985 he became a member of the SWAT Team, where he served for twelve years as an Entry Team member and later Entry Team Leader. Later the same year, Maney was assigned to the newly created Uniformed Tactical Squad. It was designed to address street level drug crime and rising crack cocaine epidemic. In 1987 he returned to the Patrol Division as a Uniformed Patrol Officer where he served until 1988.

In 1988 Maney was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division where he served as a detective. He investigated property crimes, violent crimes, sex crimes and later homicide. Maney also served as a member of the Department’s Critical Incident Team, which investigates officers’ utilization of deadly force. In 1991 Maney was named the Department Officer of the Year and awarded the Chief’s Medal of Excellence for his work as a detective.

In 1993 Maney was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and transferred back to the Patrol Division as a supervisor. In 1996 he was assigned as the Department’s Administrative Sergeant and Quartermaster.

In February 1997 Maney was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as a Patrol Shift Commander. He served as the District I Shift Commander for four years, and the District II Shift Commander for three years.

In 2004 Maney was transferred back to the Criminal Investigations Division to supervise the detectives responsible for investigating Homicide and Violent Crimes. He also commanded the Critical Incident Team. In June 2006, Maney was instrumental in developing the Department’s first unit dedicated specifically to the investigation of Homicides, Cold Case Homicide and Critical Incidents. This unit consists of five investigators under the direct supervision of a Sergeant. In February 2007 Maney was promoted to Captain and assigned as Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division.

Captain Maney is a 1977 graduate of Pensacola Junior College, where he obtained an Associate of Science in Law Enforcement. In 1979 he graduated from the University of West Florida in Pensacola with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. Captain Maney is a member of the Florida Homicide Investigators Association.
