| Captain Daniel Sargent was born and raised in the City of West Palm Beach and was hired by the West Palm Beach Police Department as a Police Cadet in 1979. While a Police Cadet, he attended the Palm Beach Junior College where he earned an Associate degree in Criminal Justice.
Sargent continued his education at Florida State University. He earned a Bachelor degree in Criminology in December of 1982. After graduating, he returned to the West Palm Beach Police Department.
Sargent joined the force January 1983. He attended the Police Academy at Palm Beach Junior College. Sargent was President of Recruit Class # 34 and graduated March 10, 1983. He was assigned to the patrol division and became a Field Training Officer in1984. In June1985, Sargent was chosen as a member of the newly formed Tactical unit. After serving two years on the Tactical unit he returned to the Patrol Division. In April 1989, Sargent was selected to patrol the Water Catchment Area. After serving one year with the detail, he was transferred to the Aviation Unit as a Helicopter Observer. While a member of this unit, Sargent earned his Commercial Helicopter Pilot License. In June1992, Sargent became a Relief Helicopter Pilot.
In April 1996, Sargent was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the patrol division Nights II Platoon. He served one year as a patrol supervisor and then was transferred to the H.O.P.E. Team. He served as the H.O.P.E. Team Sergeant for two years and then was transferred to the Criminal Apprehension Team.
In August 2000, Sargent was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and once again reassigned to the Patrol Division. He served as the Days I Shift Commander for two years. In 2002, Sargent was assigned to the Community Response Division. He served two years in this division and then was transferred to the Special Investigations Division for the purpose of starting the newly formed Quick Response Team. He was the Quick Response Team Lieutenant for one year and then became the Organized Crime Section Lieutenant in November 2005.
On December 15, 2006 Sargent was promoted to Captain and assigned to the Special Investigations Division as the Division Commander. The Special Investigations Division is responsible for investigating organized crime, organized narcotic trafficking and prostitution related offenses.
Captain Sargent is an eighteen year veteran of the departments S.W.A.T. Team. He has served in the capacity of an Entry Team Member, Team Leader, Executive Officer and is currently the S.W.A.T. Team Commander.
He is a graduate of the 112th Administrative Officer’s Course, Southern Police Institute, at the University of Louisville.
Captain Sargent is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the National Tactical Officers Association.
